Teaching your children about Jesus doesn’t have to be hard. You can totally have age-appropriate conversations with your children and teach them about Jesus every day.
Here are a few tips about how to teach toddlers about Jesus:
Read the Bible and Christian books
This one is easy. You just need to get an age-appropriate Bible (like this toddler version) and read your children a Bible story every day. We make this part of my kid’s bedtime routine. It doesn’t have to be any harder than that really.
We just read them the story every night before bed and then I will ask my daughter questions related to the story.
I just ask her questions to make sure she understands the story. I will also ask here questions like “Where is God?” and “Where is Jesus?”.
Talk about God & creation
Talk about God and creation. Tell them God made the sun, moon, and stars. When you see something that reminds you of God, just talk to them about it. Talk about God with everything you do. Tell them God made Mommy, Daddy, and them!
Talk to them about how God loves everyone.
Pray with your children. Don’t hesitate to ask them to join in. Sometimes my daughter will repeat after me during our prayer. I will also ask her if there is anything she wants to pray about or needs help with. I just talk to her like she totally understands everything I am saying.
Watch Christian shows and movies
Watch Christian shows where they teach children about God like Veggie Tales. Talk to them about the show and relate the show to God’s teachings and Bible verses.
Sing worship songs or Children’s worship songs in the car. Ask them to join in and talk to them about the meaning behind the songs.
First of all………… what in the world is a catechism? According to Google, a catechism is a series of fixed questions, answers, or precepts used for instruction in other situations.
So a catechism is basically a question to teach a lesson. Like, “Who made you?” or
Set an example
Setting an example is a great way to show your children how to act like Jesus. If they see you praying and reading your Bible, it will encourage them to follow because they want to act like you.
Go to church
Going to church is so great for your children. Your whole family can learn about God and your children can have friends who love God too.
My daughter is OBSESSED with church. She squeals every single time she knows we are near the church.
Don’t make it difficult
You know the acronym KISS? It means Keep It Simple Stupid. You don’t have to go overboard. Just keep it simple. Just bring God and Jesus up in everyday life. You don’t have to mark it in the calendar or plan ahead. Just do it. The only part I plan is going to church and in the bedtime routine.
There are so many ways to teach your children about Jesus. Don’t make it hard. Just keep it simple. Weave it into your everyday life where it becomes a habit.
